ABOUT HUB
(1) HUB is a Networking Device which is used to connect multiple computers, printers, scanners etc within a computer network.
(2) HUB is used in small networks like LOCAL AREA NETWORK(Peer to Peer Network).
(3) There are many names of HUB like Ethernet HUB, Repeater, Active HUB, Dumb Switch and Network HUB.
(4) Generally HUB Transmits Data Packets from one computer to another computer, that means it helps in data communication. If it receives data packets from one port then it broadcasts those data packets to all other connected computers in the network.
(5) According to Physical configuration looks like Star Topology but logically it works as Bus Topology.

(7) Traditional HUB provides bandwidth of 10 Mbps but now a days HUB supports bandwidth up-to 100 Mbps.
TYPES OF HUB
There are 3 Types of HUB.
(A) Active HUB
(B) Passive HUB
(C) Intelligent HUB
(A) ACTIVE HUB::
(i) It consumes Electric Current.
(ii) It amplifies the signal that means it increases the strength of coming signal.
(iii)It does not support routing feature.
(B) PASSIVE HUB::
(i) It does not consume Current.
(ii) It does not amplify the signal that means it does not increase the strength of coming signal.
(iii)It does not support routing feature.
(C) INTELIGENT HUB::
(i) It consumes Electric Current.
(ii) It amplifies the signal that means it increases the strength of coming signal.
(iii)It supports routing feature.

HOW DOES HUB WORK
If "DEVICE-1" wants to communicate with "PC-3" then:
(a) data to be tocnsmitted shall be converted into small data packets.
(b) Those data packets are transmitted to HUB.
(c) HUB transmits these data packets to PC-1, PC-2, PC-3.
(d) Data packets are sent to a particular address i.e IP Address.
(IP: INTERNET PROTOCOL)
(e) If IP address matches with the IP address of the computer then computer will accept all the data packets otherwise rejects them.
(f) PC-1, PC-2 will reject but only PC-3 will accept all the data packets.
ADVANTAGES OF HUB
(1) Speedy data transmission
(2) No hurdle in communication
(3) Increases the strength of the signlas
(4) Less network breakdown
(5) Cost effectiveness
DISADVANTAGES OF HUB
(1) Collision of data Packets
(2) High risk of lost communication
(3) Smaller in network size
(4) Not so Smart like Switch
(5) Works on Half-duplex mode
